THE MAGIC OF AN EXCEPTIONAL PLACE
THE PASSION OF THE PEOPLE
The domaine Terres d'Hachène bears its name from the letters H and N, initials of ‘’Hic et Nunc’’ – Here and Now in latin. This epicurean expression illustrates the motto of our wines : 'Living the moment and enjoying what the terroir gives us.'
Located 40 kilometres away from Montpellier, in the heart of the Cévennes foothills, the estate is at a place called "Le Puechlong". Puech meaning ‘hill’, the domain is the highest point of the village of Saint Nazaire des Gardies. Its dominant position protects the vines from autumn mists and ensures a good sanitary state .
The soils are mainly made of clay limestone marls, but also of soilson conglomerates, of worn pebbles and deeper brown soils. The geological diversity takes part into the quality of the terroir and the parcels’ differentiation of the vineyard.
From its proximity with the Aigoual Mount and the Liron, the climate of the area is the one from the Cévennes : a Mediterranean summer climate, a cold and dry winter and important fall rains.
Former Roman opppidum, archeological digs were realized back in the XIXth century. The mas – whom building date remains unknown – appears in the regional archives as a place of residence in the XVth century. In the XXth century, the estate was turned into a ‘magnanerie’ or silk factory. The mulberry trees were replaced by the vines at the beginning of the 2000’s.
The estate consists in fourteen hectares of vines, areas of cultivation, olive trees and also ten hectares of forests. This protected environment welcomes sheep and lamas in order to clear the vegetation and so participate in the protection of forest fires; while taking part into the biodynamic approach undertaken by the vineyard since its creation.
